In the UK the Catholic Church refused to rent space to practice yoga, as yoga is a spiritual practice in Hinduism, writes The Daily Telegraph.
As told by a yoga instructor and Pilates Cory Witell, which was rented in St Edmund’s Church hall, a ban on yoga for ten days before the opening of the sports school made the priest of the Church of John Chandler.
The priest explained that rooms can only be used for activities related to
the Catholic faith. According to him, yoga that was going to teach Witell, not just a sport, and religious practice, as it was advertised as “spiritual yoga”.
Two months ago, the Church agreed to surrender Witell space for rent that she paid 180 pounds. Now the Church didn’t let her hold clases not only yoga, but also Pilates, which has no relation to any religion. The priest explained the delay that was allegedly misled. As for yoga, the instructor asured that they never had in their clases, meditations. According to her, she is limited to the set of exercises that help to lose weight and to relax psychologically.
